7pm Stations of the Cross - Christ Church Hanham
The Stations of the Cross is a devotion dating from the late Middle Ages, and encouraged by the Franciscans. The Stations of the Cross has developed over time and may be a public service or a personal devotion. There are a set of 15 pictures in Christ Church but we use only fourteen on Holy Wednesday as we do not mention the resurrection at this particular service. These illustrations show the passion of our Lord from his trial, his journey to the Cross, his crucifixion, death and final burial. During the service we contemplate through words and movement, the physical suffering of Jesus and the pain of his mother, Mary.
